Product Description

An environmentally friendly water based exterior/interior timber finish ideal for decks and outdoor furniture providing good durability and flexibility. Its highly transparent finish accentuates
the natural characteristics and colour of the wood.

Application Description

Ready to use with no need to thin. Stir thoroughly before use. Final colour will depend upon timber type, previous treatment and the number of coats applied. Ensure timber moisture content is below 15%. Do not apply in temperatures below 5℃ and above 35°C, in damp conditions (when relative humidity is above 85%), or if rain or dew is likely before the product has dried. If using more than one can, it is advisable to mix them together in a larger container or finish in a corner before starting the new can to ensure colour consistency. On previously stained timber, touch up bare areas first and allow to dry. Avoid heavy wear and tear on the decking for a few days after application. At temperatures below 10°C and when used internally with limited air circulation, the drying process will be delayed. On correctly prepared surfaces, three coats evenly with a good quality brush along the grain, avoiding overlaps. Allow 2 hours between coats.

Tips & Advice

  • 1. Preparing the Surfaces
Moisture content of timber to be coated should not exceed 15%
New or unseasoned hardwood such as Merbau (Kwila), Spotted Gum, Tallowwood, Jarrah and Ironbark contain natural tannins. These tannins need to be extracted prior to coating. This will happen naturally over a period of 3-6 months depending on exposure, or the process can be accelerated using Sikkens Cetol Tannin & Oil Remover followed by Sikkens Cetol Deck & Wood Cleaner.
    Preparation and application advice:
Step 1: Ensure the timber to be treated is clean, dry and free from any dirt or loose debris. New Timber: New tannin-rich timbers should be allowed to season first or rough sanded and treated with Sikkens Cetol BL Tannin & Oil Remover to encourage oils and tannins to be drawn to the surface. Older Timber: Sand back to bare all flaking, peeling, and weathered coating. If the existing stain finish is in good condition or the timber has uniformly weathered (turned grey) with no visible finish, then sanding is not essential; move to the next step.
Step 2: Cean the timber with Sikkens Cetol BL Deck & Wood Cleaner. Rinse and allow to dry thoroughly. For previously stained timber with an intact finish, for best results, light sanding is recommended. Remove sanding dust.
Step 3: Apply Sikkens Cetol BLX-Pro
Stir the can well before and frequently during use. Brush on evenly along the grain. Apply a second coat after 2 hours. A third coat is recommended for extra protection in areas with full sun exposure and around pools. Do not allow puddles to form. Back brush the excess for a uniform finish.
  • 2. Cleaning
Clean the brushes and equipment immediately with lukewarm water. Add household detergent when necessary. Do not use hot water.
  • 3. Storing
