Product Description

Sikkens Cetol Supernatural is a water-based, quick drying, medium-build transparent satin topcoat with added UV filters. Designed as the final two finishing coats over Sikkens Cetol HLSe. It remains flexible as timber moves and provides extra protection for timber exposed to maximum weathering.

Application Description

Ready to use. Stir thoroughly before use. Final colour will depend upon timber type, previous treatment and the number of coats applied. Ensure timber moisture content is below 15%. Do not apply in temperatures below 5℃ and above 35°C, in damp conditions (when relative humidity is above 85%), or if rain or dew is likely before the product has dried. If using more than one can, it is advisable to mix them together in a larger container to ensure colour consistency. At temperatures below 10°C and when used internally with limited air circulation, the drying process will be delayed. One characteristic of waterborne coatings is that they will not form a uniform film or dry properly if air humidity is too high. If rainfall or heavy dew occurs shortly after painting, the coating may appear opaque and remain evident in prolonged wet weather. This effect will disappear once dry / sunny conditions prevail. When first applied, Cetol Supernatural will appear opaque, drying to a transparent finish in approx. 30 minutes.

Tips & Advice

  • 1. Preparing the Surfaces
Surface Descritpion: Correctly prepared vertical timber structures. Not suitable for walk-on surfaces and handrails.
    Preparation and application advice:
Step 1: Ensure the timber to be treated is clean, dry and free from any dirt or loose debris. New Timber: New tannin-rich timbers should be allowed to season first or rough sanded and treated with Sikkens Cetol BL Tannin & Oil Remover to encourage oils and tannins to be drawn to the surface. Older Timber: Sand back to bare all flaking, peeling, and weathered coating. If the existing stain finish is in good condition or the timber has uniformly weathered (turned grey) with no visible finish, then sanding is not essential; move to the next step.
Step 2: Cean the timber with Sikkens Cetol BL Deck & Wood Cleaner. Rinse and allow to dry thoroughly. For previously stained timber with an intact finish, for best results, light sanding is recommended. Remove sanding dust.
Step 3: Apply Sikkens Cetol HLSe or Cetol BLX-Pro on all bare areas / on new timber as a basecoat. Allow to dry for 24 hours, then apply two coats of Sikkens Cetol Supernatural, allowing 16 hours between coats. Brush on evenly along the grain. Recommended wet layer thickness is 55 microns per coat.
  • 2. Cleaning
Clean equipment first in water, then in mineral turpentine. Do not use hot water.
  • 3. Storing
Store in accordance with local regulations. Store in a segregated and approved area. Store in original container protected from direct sunlight in a dry, cool and well-ventilated area, away from incompatible materials (see Section 10) and food and drink. Eliminate all ignition sources. Separate from oxidising materials. Keep container tightly closed and sealed until ready for use. Containers that have been opened must be carefully resealed and kept upright to prevent leakage. Do not store in unlabelled containers. Use appropriate containment to avoid environmental contamination. See Section 10 for incompatible materials before handling or use.
