After months of battling the elements, the timber on our homes can often take us by surprise, suddenly looking very worn-out and dirty. It’s vital to protect the timber surfaces on the outside of our homes in order to maintain the quality of the timber for many years to come. We have two great products that you may consider to keep your exterior timber well protected and looking beautiful for longer…
What you need: Sikkens Cetol Deck Ultra or Sikkens Cetol BL Natural Decking Oil
Sikkens Cetol Deck Ultra (also available in a Slip Resistant formula) is an oil-rich translucent decking finish. It is oil based, highly translucent, deep penetrating and dries to a luxurious satin finish. It allows you to protect your softwood or hardwood decking and keep the timber looking beautiful for longer. It’s an all-in-one timber stain so no separate basecoat is required. It’s specially formulated to offer high resistance to particularly tough weather conditions such as repeated sun, rain and snow and ensures that dirt doesn’t adhere to the wood – instead, it is easily washed away when it rains or when you give it a quick rinse with water. It’s touch dry in 4 hours and ready for a re-coat in 24 hours.
Sikkens Cetol BL Natural Decking Oil offers the same benefits with a natural matt finish. It goes on smooth, penetrates deeply and dries quicker. It is recoatable after 2 hours and water based for a quick water wash up.
Both product options are available in colour Natural (078) and Merbau (037).
Why they are great
These durable finishes offer exceptional protection, meaning your timber deck looks beautiful for longer. They are highly translucent, allowing the wood's natural grain pattern to show through and enhancing the natural beauty of timber.

The results
Your decking looks beautiful and pristine. The timber is protected against the extreme weather conditions and the surface will stay clean for longer. So you can relax, safe in the knowledge that the wood is now protected come rain, snow or sunshine. Now, all that’s left to do is enjoy the fruits of your labour – and perhaps now you’re feeling inspired to refresh the your garden furnitures, too!
Want more help with refreshing your exterior timber? Get color inspiration with our Find Your Color guide. Remember! You can always head to your local store for a colour card or 100ml sample pots. To test a colour on your timber, we recommend you apply it in an obscure area in two or three coats and view at different times of the day.
